NYSC CONDEMNS ASSAULT ON FEMALE CORPS MEMBER IN ANAMBRA
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has condemned in strong terms the assault of a female corps member by operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In a statement signed by Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the scheme described the incident as “unacceptable and dehumanising,” stressing that the conduct of the vigilante operatives could not be justified under any circumstance.
While acknowledging the concern expressed by the general public and the swift intervention of the Anambra State Government, the NYSC assured that it fully supports the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Police Force. It expressed confidence that the probe would bring justice for the affected corps member and any other aggrieved parties.
The management further disclosed that administrative procedures were already in motion to provide support for the corps member in dealing with both the psychological and physiological effects of the incident.
“Management wishes to use this medium to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of corps members nationwide. Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve,” the statement added.
The incident, which surfaced online through a viral video, has continued to stir widespread reactions and renewed conversations about the safety of corps members in their places of primary assignment across the country. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had earlier described the attack as barbaric and demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
