LASU MANAGEMENT ISSUES ADVISORY ON ORO FESTIVAL RITES IN IBA KINGDOM
The Management of Lagos State University (LASU) has officially notified staff and students about the upcoming annual Oro traditional rites in Iba Kingdom, urging members of the university community to exercise caution during the period.
In a circular signed by Deputy Registrar/Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Oluwayemisi A. Thomas-Onashile, the University disclosed that it received formal communication from the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Sulaimon Adeshina Raji-Ashade, the Oniba of Iba, in conjunction with elders of the Iba community.
According to the palace, the festival has been scheduled to run for nine (9) days, with specific rites to be observed on Monday, August 25 and Friday, August 29, 2025, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Management’s Directives
In light of the cultural observance, LASU management has directed that:
1. Staff and students should avoid unnecessary movement within Iba community during the restricted hours.
2. Academic, administrative, and personal activities should be planned outside the affected timeframe.
3. Members of the university community must remain law-abiding and comply fully with the directive.
The statement further emphasized the university’s unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of all staff and students, assuring that the institution will continue to cooperate with community leaders to maintain peace and security.
Additional Clarification
The Palace of the Oniba of Iba has also expressed readiness to provide any further clarification needed during the festival period.
The university therefore appeals to staff and students for understanding and full compliance.
