#FASULagos2024: LASU MALE FOOTBALL TEAM SHUTS DOWN FUOYE WITH 2-1 EMPHATIC VICTORY
ON Monday 23rd of September 2024, Co-Hosts LASU Male Football Team took on FUOYE Male Football Team as the 11th FASU Games progressed at the heart of LAGOS, Nigeria.
LASU’s Male football team were on the cusp of a back-to-back draw until AJAYI ELIJAH hits a volley past FUOYE Goalkeeper in what looks like a final attempt of an extraordinary second half.
At the beginning of the match, LASU and FUOYE threatened each other, but neither team managed to break through. As the game progressed, the LASU team controlled the early minutes of the first half and made the most of it.
However, the energy in the stadium was palpable as the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM made a surprise appearance to cheer on the team. And what an impact she made! The moment she took her seat, the LASU squad shifted into high gear, their movements becoming a beautiful symphony of athleticism and teamwork.
It was as if the VC’s presence ignited a spark within them, and before long, the crowd erupted in joy as LASU’S number 9 Okoro Emmanuel dribbled past two players and stroke a very powerful shot from outside the box 18 which went straight into the goal post of the opposition team. The goal keeper stood no chance. The timing was uncanny – it was as if the VC’s arrival had unleashed a winning formula.
Chance and after chance after chance came and went, with the LASU football team surviving each time, until a FUOYE’s Obe Henry squeezed the ball past LASU’s goal keeper.
The second half saw FUOYE dominate proceedings, enjoying more possession and creating scoring opportunities. However, LASU’s resilient defense held firm. In a heart-stopping moment, a powerful shot from FUOYE’s striker rattled the post, only to bounce clear.
In the late minutes of the game, LASU’s persistence paid off. AJAYI ELIJAH delivered a thrilling volley, meeting a pinpoint cross and sending the ball soaring into the back of the net, sparking jubilation among the LASU supporters.
