LAGOS STATE UNVEILS 21ST EDITION OF SPELLING BEE COMPETITION

The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the 21st Edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition, reaffirming its commitment to promoting literacy and academic excellence among schoolchildren across the state.

Speaking to journalists, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, said this year’s edition has been carefully designed to reflect the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration. He noted that the Ministry has taken deliberate steps to ensure the 2025 Spelling Bee stands out, showcasing the state’s dedication to nurturing young minds.

According to the Commissioner, the competition is being organised by the Office of Education Quality Assurance in partnership with the New Era Foundation. He explained that the event will take place at the Eko FM Multi-Purpose Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja, with the Junior Category for primary school pupils scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, while the Senior Category for secondary school students will follow on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Mr Alli-Balogun described the Lagos State Spelling Bee as one of the most anticipated academic contests in the state, providing a platform for students to showcase their spelling abilities, confidence and intellectual competence. He added that attractive cash prizes have been set aside for outstanding participants.

He further revealed that the winner of the Senior Category will automatically become the Lagos State Spelling Bee Champion and enjoy the distinguished privilege of serving as One-Day Governor, an initiative designed to expose students to leadership and governance at the highest level.

To ensure the success of the event, the Commissioner disclosed that a planning committee was inaugurated in October and has since held strategic sessions with technical partners, including a renowned quiz master, to maintain the high standards the competition is known for.

He assured that the 21st Edition of the Spelling Bee Competition will be engaging, innovative and memorable, featuring activities that will enrich the experience of both participants and invited guests.

The Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition continues to serve as a beacon of academic excellence, inspiring confidence in young learners and grooming future leaders.
