The 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games (UNIJOS 2025) have drawn to a close, with Benson Idahosa University emerging as the overall champions, according to the official Medals Table released on 19:00h WAT.
Top of the Table
Benson Idahosa University secured the coveted top position with a formidable haul of 83 medals: 31 Gold, 25 Silver, and 27 Bronze. Their performance showcased a commanding lead over the competition.
Trailing in the second and third spots were the University of Jos (UNIJOS), which served as the host, and the University of Benin (UNIBEN), respectively.
2nd Place: University of Jos finished with a total of 69 medals (17 Gold, 15 Silver, 37 Bronze).
3rd Place: University of Benin followed closely with 67 medals (15 Gold, 17 Silver, 35 Bronze).
Key Contenders and Notable Finishes
The competition for the top five was fierce. Following the top three, Delta State University Abraka secured 4th place with a total of 32 medals (12 Gold, 17 Silver, and 3 Bronze). Rivers State University Port-Harcourt rounded out the top five, claiming 12 medals (5 Gold, 6 Silver, and 1 Bronze).
Other notable performances included the University of Ibadan in 6th place, tallying 36 medals, and the University of Calabar in 12th place with 14 medals.
Broader Participation
The official table reflects medals won by universities across the country, showcasing the wide participation in the biennial university sporting event. Schools like the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) also secured double-digit medal totals, finishing 17th (15 medals) and 26th (26 medals), respectively.
The successful conclusion of the 27th NUGA Games celebrates sporting excellence, camaraderie, and healthy competition among Nigerian universities.
