UNIABUJA GOVERNING COUNCIL APPOINTS SAMBO AS ACTING REGISTRAR

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has approved the appointment of Malam Mohammed Sambo as Acting Registrar of the institution.

The decision was reached during the Council’s 80th Extraordinary Meeting held on Friday, 7 November 2025, under the chairmanship of Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Olanrewaju Tejuoso. The appointment takes effect from Tuesday, 11 November 2025, and will last for three months.

Sambo succeeds Mrs. Roseline Adakayi, who was appointed in May 2025 for a six-month term. Until his new role, Sambo served as Deputy Registrar, Council Division.

In line with the University’s governance framework, the Acting Registrar will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor and serve as Secretary to the Governing Council.

Speaking on the appointment, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mathew Adamu, described it as a positive step that would strengthen administrative efficiency within the institution. He urged Sambo to uphold professionalism, integrity, and teamwork “as we continue to work together to lift the University higher.”

Adamu also commended Mrs. Adakayi for her contributions during her tenure, acknowledging her role in stabilising the system.

Profile

Malam Mohammed Sambo holds a B.A. (Hons) in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Abuja.

He began his career at the Peoples Bank of Nigeria, Ikara Branch, Kaduna State, in 1989 and later worked with Nigeria Universal Bank Limited, Zaria Branch. He also served at the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, before joining the University of Abuja in 2007.

Sambo has held several administrative positions, including Deputy Director at the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria and General Manager, Human Resources Management, at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET).

He is a member of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

The new Acting Registrar brings over three decades of experience in university administration, leadership, and human resource management.
