FUTA RECEIVES N1 BILLION FG INTERVENTION FOR AGRICULTURAL COMMERCIAL FARM

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has received a N1 billion allocation from the Federal Government’s 2025 Special Intervention Fund for Agricultural Commercial Farms.

In a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono, confirmed the approval. He stated that the allocation followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s endorsement of the 2025 intervention budget in accordance with the TETFund Act of 2011.

According to Echono, “Your institution has been allocated a special intervention for Agricultural Commercial Farm. Accordingly, I hereby convey the allocation of the sum of One Billion Naira (N1,000,000,000.00) only for Agricultural Commercial Farm.”

Reacting to the development, Professor Oladiji expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for finding FUTA worthy of the intervention. She described the fund as a testament to the university’s growing relevance in addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges.

“This allocation is a further testament to FUTA’s relevance in tackling food insecurity,” she said. “Our vegetable production center is ready to guide farmers on cultivating the F1 species of bell pepper and tomatoes, developed at our Teaching and Research Farm. We’ve also expanded our palm tree plantation and ongoing greenhouse construction. This fund will boost our commercial farming efforts for the nation’s benefit.”

She assured the President that the funds would be used judiciously and that FUTA would deliver tangible results in advancing agricultural innovation and productivity.
