ASUU THREATENS FRESH STRIKE, ACCUSES EDUCATION MINISTER OF WITHHOLDING FUNDS
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that it may resume its suspended strike in two weeks if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands.
The union said it only suspended the strike out of respect and goodwill, but government inaction is testing its patience.
In a statement by the ASUU Chairman, University of Jos chapter, Prof. Jurbe Joseph Molwus, the union expressed disappointment that the ₦50 billion revitalisation fund reportedly released weeks ago is yet to reach universities.
ASUU accused the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Maruf Alausa, of withholding the fund and described the ₦2.3 billion announced for salary and promotion arrears as “grossly inadequate and insulting.”
Prof. Molwus said the ultimatum given to the Federal Government will expire on November 21, 2025, after which ASUU may resume its strike.
