NELFUND TO OPEN STUDENT LOAN APPLICATION PORTAL OCTOBER 23 FOR 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session will officially open on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and close on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, who called on tertiary institutions nationwide to cooperate with the Fund to ensure a smooth and inclusive application process.
According to the statement, institutions are required to update and upload verified records of both returning and newly admitted students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal, noting that this step is crucial for students to successfully apply and benefit from the loan scheme.
“The Fund appreciates the continued cooperation of tertiary institutions across the country and seeks their further collaboration to ensure a seamless loan process for all eligible students,” the statement said.
NELFUND explained that returning and newly admitted students of accredited tertiary institutions are eligible to apply for the loan. Fresh students may apply using either their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a Matriculation Number.
The Fund also appealed to schools to show understanding and flexibility in enforcing registration and tuition payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement. It added that institutions that have not commenced their 2025/2026 academic session should formally write to NELFUND with their approved academic calendar to allow scheduling flexibility.
“No student should lose access to education due to financial constraints. Institutions are encouraged to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are being processed,” Mrs. Oluwatuyi emphasized.
The Fund reaffirmed its commitment to increasing access to higher education and supporting students from all backgrounds in line with the Federal Government’s vision for an inclusive education system.
