AKSU STUDENTS UNION PRESIDENT SUSPENDED FROM SCHOOL OVER MISCONDUCT

The Dean of Students’ Affairs of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Dr. Dominic Ekpo, has announced the suspension of the Students’ Union President, Mr. Elijah Ekanem, following allegations of gross misconduct.

According to an official letter issued on Thursday, the suspension takes effect immediately. The letter stated that Mr. Ekanem was accused of “unlawfully seizing the car keys from the Driver assigned to his office as Students’ Union President, and giving false information against the constituted authority.”

The Dean explained that several interventions — both verbal and written — had been made to address the matter before the decision was reached. Citing the AKSU Students’ Handbook, Dr. Ekpo emphasized that the alleged actions constitute major misconduct under university regulations.

Mr. Ekanem has been directed to appear before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee for further investigation. Meanwhile, the Vice President of the Students’ Union has been instructed to assume leadership in acting capacity until the Committee concludes its findings.

The suspension notice was copied to the Acting Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Director of Academic Affairs, Chief Security Officer, Head of Department of Public Administration, and filed in the Students’ Affairs Division.

This development marks a significant shake-up in the university’s student leadership and is expected to draw reactions from the student body in the coming days.
