UNIZIK BANS FINAL YEAR STUDENTS SIGN OUT FUN-FAIR ACTIVITIES
The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has announced an indefinite ban on all forms of “signing off” celebrations by final year students on campus.
The decision, communicated through an internal memorandum signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, cited recurring incidents of chaos, violence, and disruption of academic activities during such events as reasons for the ban.
According to the memo, the university has also expressed concern over the presence of unauthorized individuals who often infiltrate the campus during the activities, posing threats to the safety and security of students, staff, and the wider university community.
“In fulfillment of its obligation to maintain order, protect life, and safeguard property within the University, Management has taken this decisive step to ban all such activities, deeming them unacceptable,” the statement read.
The memo further warned that any student found participating in or organizing “signing off” events will face severe disciplinary measures, which may include rustication. It also stressed that outsiders caught on campus in connection with such activities risk arrest and prosecution for disorderly conduct and breach of peace.
The university management reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for learning and urged students to concentrate on their academic responsibilities. Students were also encouraged to report any cases of misconduct or threats to campus security and relevant authorities.
