LASU SECURES NUC APPROVAL FOR TWO NEW UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION PROGRAMMES

Lagos State University (LASU) has received the official nod from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence two new undergraduate programmes, beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session.

The approved programmes are:

• B.A. Ed. Music Education

• B.Ed. Social Studies and Civic Education

The approval was communicated in a letter dated 17th July 2025, signed by Mr. Abubakar M. Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NUC. This followed a recent resource verification visit to LASU, where expert panels assessed the University’s preparedness in terms of human and material resources for the proposed programmes.

According to the NUC, the approval is granted for full-time mode only, and the Commission has urged the University to ensure continuous provision of adequate facilities and academic personnel in line with national academic standards.

This development marks a significant step in LASU’s effort to broaden its academic offerings, particularly in the field of teacher education, reinforcing its commitment to excellence and educational innovation.

The University described the approval as another milestone in its strategic mission to increase access to quality education and nurture a new generation of educators.
