WAEC Candidate Killed by Police Stray Bullet in Oyo State

In a heartbreaking development from Ibadan, Oyo State, a student on his way to sit for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was reportedly killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a police officer.

According to local sources, the tragic incident occurred along Gbagi Market Road on Tuesday morning. Eyewitnesses claimed that a team of police officers was in pursuit of a vehicle when one of them fired shots at the moving car. A stray bullet from the gunfire allegedly struck the student, who was a passenger on his father’s motorcycle at the time.

The student, whose identity had not yet been confirmed at the time of the report, was immediately rushed to Welfare Hospital by concerned members of the public. Sadly, he was declared dead on arrival.

Following the incident, a group of aggrieved residents and sympathisers reportedly carried the victim’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat in a bid to draw the attention of Governor Seyi Makinde and demand justice for the young student.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, SP Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to his phone had yet to receive a response at the time of this report.

This incident has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about police conduct and the safety of students, especially during a crucial period like the national examination season.
