WAEC Launches Personalised Question Papers; No More Shared Questions, No More ‘Expo’

In a groundbreaking effort to eradicate examination malpractice, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the introduction of customised question papers for individual candidates in selected subjects — a move that ensures no two students will answer the same set of questions.

This revelation was made during a briefing for school principals, where WAEC outlined the new approach set to be implemented in the upcoming exams.

The affected subjects include English Language (Papers 1 & 3), Biology 1, Mathematics 1, and Economics 1 — all of which will now be customised per candidate, with each student receiving a uniquely generated question paper tied to their personal OMR sheet.

According to WAEC, this system demands strict adherence during the distribution of exam materials.

In instances where a candidate’s customised paper is missing, supervisors are instructed to immediately provide an ‘emergency question paper’ and a plain OMR sheet to the affected student.

This strategy is a direct response to long-standing issues of malpractice, collusion, and question leaks that have plagued the system. With this measure, WAEC is sending a strong message: the era of shared answers and coordinated cheating is over.

As the shift takes effect, parents, guardians, and educators are being urged to support students more than ever. “Let’s all encourage our children to work extra hard, especially those in exam classes. Days of dependence on examination malpractice will soon be over,” a concerned educator advised.

During this holiday period, parents are encouraged to provide a quiet and supportive study environment. Where homes may not be ideal for focused learning, alternative spaces should be sought to help students prepare adequately.

Ensuring access to required textbooks and giving students the moral and emotional encouragement they need will be crucial as Nigeria’s education system steps boldly into an era of increased integrity and academic fairness.
