The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, addressed the 28th Convocation Press Conference on Thursday, 3rd April 2025, at the Senate Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo. This event marked the beginning of the 28th convocation ceremonies, a significant milestone in the university’s history.

Fresh from the announcement of its best graduating student, NWOSU ISIOMA SYBIL, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, announced key details of the upcoming convocation. The convocation lecture, which promises to be a highlight of the event, will be delivered by Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, the Honourable Minister of Education. Titled “Patriots, Citizenship and National Ownership: The Imperative of Collective Responsibility for Nigeria’s Future,” the lecture is set to take place on Tuesday, 8th April 2025, at 11:00 am at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo. Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kano State, will serve as the Chairman of the occasion.

In line with the university’s commitment to technological advancements, LASU has launched TALKSPACE, its own online meeting application, available for flexible subscription on the university’s website. This new platform enhances communication within and beyond the LASU community.

Further demonstrating its commitment to innovation, LASU unveiled the establishment of a new Faculty of Computing, which will house five departments: Department of Computer Science, Department of Cyber Security, Department of Data Science, Department of ICT, and Department of Software Engineering. This development will provide students with cutting-edge skills, preparing them for the rapidly evolving digital landscape. These departments will offer academic programs leading to the award of various degrees.

In a bid to bolster its technological infrastructure, LASU has also made significant strides in expanding its ICT resources. The university recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art 1-petabyte Tier 3 Data Centre, designed to warehouse and provide data archiving and repository services for curated data items in Lagos State and beyond. This infrastructure will also support the telecommunications industry, further solidifying LASU’s position as a leader in ICT development.

Just days before the convocation, LASU further expanded its ICT infrastructure with the inauguration of a 350-seat Computer-Based Test Centre, designed to enhance academic and administrative efficiency. This new facility will provide students and faculty with advanced resources for digital exams and assessments.

With these developments, LASU’s 28th convocation is shaping up to be a celebration of excellence, progress, and the university’s ongoing commitment to producing graduates capable of making meaningful contributions to society. The event promises to highlight the institution’s focus on innovation, ensuring that its students are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
