FUD APPOINTS PROF. AHMED MOHAMMED AS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) has approved the appointment of Professor Ahmed Mohammed Gumel as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The approval was granted at the Extraordinary Meeting of the 4th Governing Council held on Friday, 13 December 2025. The appointment takes effect from 16 February 2026.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Shu’aibu Oba Abdulraheem, OFR, NRIM, disclosed that the selection followed a rigorous and meticulous process. He stated that a total of 21 applicants were shortlisted and interviewed, after which Professor Gumel emerged successful.

Professor Abdulraheem congratulated the Vice-Chancellor designate and prayed for divine guidance in the discharge of his responsibilities.

In his remarks, Professor Gumel expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve the university. He also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor Joint Selection Committee, the Chairman of Council, the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, and members of the Governing Council for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to build on the achievements of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the institution.

Brief Profile

Professor Ahmed Mohammed Gumel is an alumnus of the University of Malaya, Malaysia, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Biotechnology and a PhD in Industrial Biotechnology with specialisation in Biocatalysis and Bioprocess Technology in 2009 and 2011, respectively. He also served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Malaya in 2014.

In addition to his academic qualifications, Professor Gumel holds a Professional Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA), an Advanced Diploma in Education, a Diploma in Networking and Information Technology, and a Certificate in Advanced Official Appearance Training (AOAPT).

He is an award-winning scholar whose PhD thesis received a distinction at the University of Malaya.
