FG BANS SS3 ADMISSIONS AND TRANSFERS NATIONWIDE TO CURB EXAM MALPRACTICE

The Federal Government has imposed a nationwide ban on admitting or transferring students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) across all public and private secondary schools, in a bold move to tackle rising examination malpractice.

The directive, announced by the Federal Ministry of Education, targets the use of “special centres” during external exams, which have eroded the credibility of Nigeria’s education system. Admissions and transfers will now be limited strictly to SS1 and SS2, effective from the 2026/2027 academic calendar.

In a press release issued today from its Abuja headquarters, the Ministry stated that the policy aims to prevent last-minute student movements for exam advantages, ensure consistent academic monitoring, and foster uninterrupted teaching and learning.”

The measure is aimed at discouraging last-minute movement of students for examination-related advantages,” the release noted.School proprietors, principals, and administrators have been ordered to comply fully, with violators facing sanctions under existing regulations.

The Ministry, through its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to upholding academic standards, fairness, and trust in public examinations.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, though some worry it could limit flexibility for genuine cases like family relocations.

The policy aligns with ongoing reforms to sanitize the sector amid persistent leaks and proxy exam scandals.
