EBONYI STATE UNIVERSITY (EBSU) STANDARDIZES PRICES FOR CAMPUS GOODS AND SERVICES

Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, has officially released a standardized price list for goods and services across its campuses. The list, sanctioned by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, aims to regulate commercial transactions between students and campus business operators, promoting fairness and uniformity.

The price list, detailed in a memorandum dated December 8, 2025, covers essentials like meals, beverages, snacks, printing services, and school fees processing charges.

Among the key pricing details, a full plate of food including popular dishes such as eba with meat, rice with meat, plantain, and beans is set at ₦1,200. Sachets of pure water are now sold at ₦40 each or ₦100 for three sachets. Soft drinks are priced at ₦400 for bottles and ₦500 for canned options. Okpa, a local delicacy, is priced at ₦500 for quality variants with egg or fish, while the ordinary version is ₦200. Snack items like egg rolls have a maximum price of ₦500.

Printing and photocopying services have also been standardized with photocopying charged at ₦30 per page or ₦100 for three pages at the main campus. Typing and printing services are ₦200. Quiz papers will cost ₦40 each or ₦100 for a pack of three.

Point-of-sale (POS) charges for payments have also been capped: transactions ranging from ₦100 to ₦5,000 attract a ₦100 fee, ₦6,000 to ₦10,000 transactions incur ₦150, and ₦11,000 to ₦20,000 transactions a ₦200 fee.

School fees processing—including Remita generation, bio-data uploading, and O’Level verification for professional courses—is pegged at ₦52,400, while non-professional courses attract ₦32,400.

Dr. Emmanuel Ogbaga, Dean of Student Affairs, emphasized that adherence to the approved price list is mandatory for all campus business operators, ensuring equitable treatment and protecting students from arbitrary pricing.

The memorandum was duly signed by Dr. Ogbaga and Ucheagu D.U., Secretary to the Dean of Student Affairs.

This move by EBSU is expected to enhance transparency and affordability for the university’s student community as the new academic session progresses.
