FUTA SECURITY ARRESTS MAN FOR ADMISSION SCAM TARGETING PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
The Security Office of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) arrested a man on Monday, December 8, 2025, for allegedly collecting large sums of money from a candidate and her parents under the false promise of securing admission into the university. The incident came to light after the parent repeatedly demanded the admission and subsequently reported the matter to the university authorities. A sting operation led to the suspect’s capture, and he reportedly confessed to the fraudulent act before security agents took him into custody.
FUTA has issued a public warning cautioning prospective candidates and the general public against fraudsters impersonating university officials and offering fake admission slots. These impostors use text messages and social media posts to claim they can manipulate the results of the Post UTME Screening Exercise and guarantee admission, demanding payment into private accounts in return.
The university stressed that such claims are blatant scams designed to exploit unsuspecting candidates and their families. FUTA reaffirmed that its admission process is strictly merit-based and governed by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with no individual or external party capable of manipulating screening results or outcomes.
Members of the public are advised to be vigilant and avoid dealing with any fraudulent actors. FUTA emphasizes it will not be liable for any financial losses incurred by those who fall victim to these scams. This notice serves as an official disclaimer to protect the university community.
