FUTA VC URGES NEW STUDENTS TO UPHOLD EXCELLENCE AND INTEGRITY AT 2025/2026 ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has charged all newly admitted students to uphold the university’s long-standing values of excellence, integrity and innovation as they begin their academic journey.

She gave the charge on Monday, 1 December 2025, during the opening ceremony of the orientation programme for fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Addressing the new entrants, Professor Oladiji described them as ambassadors of FUTA and warned that their conduct, both on and off campus, must reflect positively on the institution. She emphasised that FUTA maintains high standards of discipline and will not tolerate any behaviour capable of tarnishing its image.

She said the university has zero tolerance for cultism, drug abuse, indecent dressing, examination misconduct and other related vices. She added that the punishment for impersonation is outright expulsion without appeal, stressing that students must make responsible choices that will shape their future.

The Vice Chancellor also cautioned the students against misuse of social media and advised them to seek assistance from the Students Affairs Division whenever they face challenges. She assured them of management’s commitment to providing essential municipal services, ICT facilities, scholarships and recreational amenities that support learning and research.

In his remarks, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor David Oke, urged the students to embrace discipline, hard work and moral uprightness, noting that the university certificate is awarded based on both academic performance and character. He advised them to build a godly and responsible lifestyle, think carefully before making decisions and abide by the institution’s rules.

Professor Oke encouraged students to reach out to the Student Affairs office for emotional, social or academic support, assuring them of a safe and inclusive environment designed to help them thrive.

The programme also featured goodwill messages from various Deans and a drama presentation titled “Choices” by the university’s School of Performing Arts.
