FEDERAL UNIVERSITY LOKOJA (FUL) RELEASES POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME ADMISSION FORM FOR THE 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
The Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State, has announced the commencement of admissions into its wide range of postgraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. The College of Postgraduate Studies is inviting applications from qualified candidates for various Academic and Professional PGD, Master’s, and Ph.D. programmes across all faculties and specialized institutes.
The advertised programmes span the Faculties of Arts, Computing, Education, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences. Additional programmes are available under the Institute of Governance and Development Studies, Centre for Safety Management, Global Institute for Infectious Diseases Control, and Institute for Gender Studies.
The university outlined general admission requirements for PGD, Master’s, and Doctoral programmes, noting specific conditions for specialized fields such as Safety Management, Gender Studies, and Molecular Biology and Genomics. Applicants must possess the required academic qualifications, O’ Level credits, and NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, while some programmes demand relevant work experience or professional membership.

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
(a) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
The Postgraduate Diploma Programme lasts for a minimum of two (2) Semesters and a maximum of four (4) Semesters. An applicant must possess a first degree not below a Third Class or an HND not below Lower Credit in a related discipline from a recognized institution, along with an NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate. A candidate must also have credits in English Language, Mathematics, and three (3) other relevant subjects at the O’ Level.
In addition to the above requirements, applicants seeking admission to the Centre for Safety Management who have considerable work experience in occupational safety, process safety, workplace safety, or related fields, or who hold equivalent professional certifications with significant industry experience, may be considered for the PGD Programmes.
(b) Master’s Degree (Academic and Professional)
The Master’s Degree Programme is available for both Full-time and Part-time candidates. Full-time candidates require a minimum of four (4) Semesters and a maximum of six (6) Semesters, while Part-time candidates require a minimum of six (6) Semesters and a maximum of eleven (11) Semesters. All Master’s Degree programmes include coursework. The following individuals may qualify for admission:
- Graduates of Federal University Lokoja or other recognized institutions who have earned a Bachelor’s Degree with at least a Second-Class Division or equivalent. Candidates with a University Degree and a relevant Postgraduate Diploma from FUL or other recognized institutions, with at least a credit pass, may also qualify.
- Candidates with a Third-Class Bachelor’s Degree and a relevant Postgraduate Diploma.
- Candidates with unclassified degrees averaging “C” or 50 and above, who may be required to take qualifying tests.
- Candidates must have five (5) relevant O’ Level credits, including English and Mathematics.
- NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.
- Candidates may need to pass a Departmental Examination to determine their suitability for postgraduate studies.
- Candidates with other acceptable qualifications approved by the University Senate.
In addition to the previously stated O’ Level requirements, admission into the Master of Science (M.Sc.) Programme in Molecular Biology and Genomics under the Global Institute for Infectious Diseases Control (FULokoja) is open to graduates from Nigerian universities recognized by the Senate of Federal University Lokoja (FUL). Eligible candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, with a minimum of a Second-Class Lower Division. Additionally, candidates who have obtained an Upper Credit grade in PGD Microbiology from Federal University Lokoja or other institutions recognized by the Senate of FULokoja are also eligible to apply.
Programmes under the Centre for Safety Management will require a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, Health Sciences, Management Sciences, or other related fields from a recognized university. Candidates with a postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management, or related fields from a recognized institution may be considered. A minimum of two years of professional experience in a safety-related field is desirable. Membership in a recognized professional safety body is an added advantage but not compulsory.
Similarly, admission into programmes at the Institute for Gender Studies (IGS) requires candidates to have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum Second-Class Lower) in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Humanities, or a related field. Relevant work experience in gender-related areas may be an added advantage for applicants.
(c) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The Ph.D. Programme runs for a minimum of six (6) Semesters and a maximum of ten (10) Semesters. Relevant courses may be prescribed, and a thesis is required at the end of the programme. The following individuals may qualify for admission:
- Graduates of Federal University Lokoja or other recognized institutions who have obtained a good Master’s degree (Academic) with a CGPA of not less than 4.0 on a 5-point scale or 3.0 on a 4-point scale, appropriate to the proposed area of study.
- Graduates of Federal University Lokoja or other recognized institutions with a Master of Philosophy degree relevant to the proposed area of study.
- In addition, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Second Class Lower Division.
- Candidates must possess five (5) relevant O’ Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
- NYSC Discharge/Exemption Certificate.
- Candidates with other acceptable qualifications approved by the University Senate.
