LASU STUDENT BEATS CANCER, GRADUATES WITH FIRST CLASS IN NURSING
The remarkable journey of Odumeru Ameerah Adefowope, a Lagos State University Nursing graduate, has warmed hearts across Nigeria and beyond after her inspiring story went viral on Twitter.

Ameerah, who gained admission into LASU in 2018, had her studies interrupted in 2022 when she was diagnosed with cancer. The illness forced her to defer four semesters as she underwent intensive treatment, including a bone marrow transplant in May 2023.
Despite the long break and the physical and emotional toll of treatment, Ameerah returned to campus in September 2023 with renewed determination. By 2025, she completed her Nursing degree, graduating with First Class Honours.
Her tweet, where she summarized her journey from diagnosis to graduation, quickly attracted massive engagement, drawing more than sixty thousand views and sparking widespread admiration.
Beyond her academic achievement, Ameerah also received an Award of Excellence as the Best in Nursing Professional Examination in the 6th Set, further establishing her as a standout talent in the field. She now holds dual certifications as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife.
Her story has since become a symbol of resilience and hope, showing that even life-threatening challenges cannot stop a determined spirit from reaching its goals.
