FG UNVEILS GOVERNANCE AND TRANSPARENCY PLATFORM FOR TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
The Federal Government has launched the Federal Tertiary Institutions Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) to enhance accountability, transparency, and data-driven decision-making across Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
The event, held at the Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters in Abuja, was presided over by the Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, FAMedS, CON. Dr. Alausa described the platform as a milestone in modernising higher education management and rebuilding public trust in the system.
He explained that FTIGTP will serve as a unified database providing real-time information on enrolment, funding, grants, and performance indicators for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
According to him, future government interventions will be linked to compliance and accountability metrics to promote efficiency and results-oriented governance.
The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, said the initiative aligns with the Ministry’s ongoing digital transformation drive. Also speaking, former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, described the project as “visionary and research-driven.”
Heads of tertiary institutions, including Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts, pledged support for the platform’s sustainability. The system demonstration was conducted by the Nigerian Education Data Initiative (NEDI), and it is now live via transparency.education.gov.ng.
The launch reaffirms the Federal Government’s commitment to accountability, innovation, and excellence in Nigeria’s higher education sector.
