AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY (ABU) ZARIA ISSUES VITAL UPDATE ON 2025/2026 ADMISSION EXERCISE
University Warns Candidates to Accept Admission and Verify O’level Uploads
The management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has released an important update concerning the 2025/2026 admission exercise, following the official closure of the process by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In a special bulletin issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the institution, the university directed all candidates who have been offered provisional admission to visit the JAMB CAPS portal immediately to ACCEPT or REJECT their admission offers.
The management expressed concern that several candidates lost their admission opportunities due to failure to upload their O’level results on the JAMB portal, a compulsory step in the admission process.
New JAMB Policy and Alternative Course Options
According to the bulletin, the JAMB CAPS portal officially closed on October 21, 2025, in line with new national admission regulations. Consequently, candidates who were not admitted into oversubscribed programmes have been advised to consider alternative programmes with available spaces.
The oversubscribed programmes include Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Dental Surgery, Physiotherapy, Law, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Mass Communication, and International Relations.
To ensure no qualified candidate is left out, the management provided a list of alternative courses that align with candidates’ UTME subject combinations.
For instance:
- Candidates who applied for Medicine may switch to related programmes such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, Agricultural & Bio-Resources Engineering, Human Anatomy, Nutrition & Dietetics, or Architecture.
- Candidates who applied for Law or Shariah (Islamic Law) may opt for Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Islamic Studies, or History and International Studies.
- Candidates who applied for Engineering or Computer-related courses may consider Biotechnology, Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Industrial Design, depending on their subject combinations.
Deadline and Contact Information
The university emphasized that candidates who wish to make use of this opportunity must complete their change of programme process on or before Friday, October 24, 2025.
All candidates are further advised to reconfirm their O’level uploads on the JAMB CAPS portal to avoid disqualification during final screening.
