LAGOS STATE TO INJECT OVER ₦5 BILLION INTO NEXT PHASE OF NYSC PERMANENT CAMP PROJECT

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to invest an additional ₦5 billion into the ongoing construction of its 10,000-capacity NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp located at Agbowa, Ikorodu.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known when he received the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the Lagos House.

Sanwo-Olu, while commending corps members for their contributions to the development of Lagos, described the NYSC scheme as a national pride. He urged participants to uphold the values of dignity and honour throughout their service year.

“As a responsible and responsive government, we will continue to support the scheme and ensure corps members feel wanted, loved, and have a memorable service year,” the governor assured.

He further revealed that the minimum wage for corps members deployed to serve directly in state government organs has been reviewed upward to reflect prevailing economic realities.

In response to requests made by the NYSC Director General, the governor also pledged to provide an ambulance and other essential equipment to enhance the operations of the scheme in the state.

Sanwo-Olu expressed delight at statistics presented by Brig. Gen. Nafiu, which showed the positive impact of corps members on Lagos’ socio-economic growth, with over 44,000 currently serving in the state.

The construction of the permanent orientation camp began in January 2025 and is part of the state government’s effort to strengthen the NYSC scheme and provide improved facilities for corps members in Lagos.
