NBTE Orders Conversion of Academic Staff Without Masters Degree After Five Years

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has directed that academic staff in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions who fail to acquire a Master’s degree within five years of employment will be converted to non-teaching staff.

In a circular signed by the Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, the Board expressed concern over the failure of some academic staff with only Bachelor’s or Higher National Diploma (HND) qualifications to upgrade their academic standing.

The memo, referenced TEB.008/LO/VOL.1130, stated that staff members have a moratorium of five years from their date of employment to obtain a Master’s degree. It added that the directive takes immediate effect and must be strictly complied with across all TVET institutions in Nigeria.
