WHO ACTUALLY GIVES ADMISSION — JAMB OR YOUR SCHOOL?

Every year, one of the most common questions from candidates is:

“When will JAMB give me admission?”

“My school has offered me admission, but it’s not showing on JAMB CAPS — why?”

Let’s clear the confusion once and for all.

First, you must understand this: JAMB does not give admission. What JAMB does is monitor, validate, and approve the admission decisions made by institutions.

Here’s how the admission process actually works:

1. Institutions Offer Admission

Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education decide who to admit based on their cut-off marks, Post-UTME/screening, and departmental requirements.

2. JAMB Confirms & Approves

Schools then forward the names of admitted candidates to JAMB through CAPS (Central Admission Processing System). JAMB checks to ensure the admission follows the rules before approving it.

3. Admission Reflects on Portals

Once approved, admission will appear on both the school portal and JAMB CAPS. Sometimes the school updates first; other times, CAPS shows first.

4. Candidates Accept or Reject on CAPS

When your admission appears on CAPS, you must either ACCEPT or REJECT it.

This can be done via SMS to 55019 or 66019.

Or at any accredited CBT centre, where biometric (thumbprint) verification will be required.

5. JAMB Issues Admission Letter

If you accept, JAMB makes your admission official, and you can then print your JAMB admission letter.

So, when will schools start giving admission?

Many schools have already started releasing admission lists.

Others will release theirs in the coming weeks after Post-UTME, screening, or registration is completed.

If your CAPS still shows “NOT ADMITTED,” don’t panic. Admission is released in batches, so keep checking.
