FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND MEDICAL SCIENCES ABEOKUTA (FUMMSA) ANNOUNCES POST-UTME PHYSICAL SCREENING SCHEDULE FOR THE 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION

The Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences Abeokuta (FUMMSA), Ogun State, has announced the official schedule for its physical admission screening exercise for the 2025/2026 academic session. The announcement marks an important milestone for the newly established federal university as it prepares to welcome its first set of students.

According to the notice, the screening will be conducted over a three-day period, from Wednesday, 10th September to Friday, 12th September 2025. Candidates are to appear on their designated dates, which have been grouped according to their programmes of study. This arrangement, the university explained, is to ensure orderliness and to allow the screening team to carefully verify the credentials of all prospective students.

Screening Requirements

FUMMSA has outlined a list of mandatory documents and materials that candidates are required to bring for the exercise. The list includes:

  • The original birth certificate or declaration of age, alongside four photocopies.
  • The original O’level certificate, also with four photocopies.
  • The original JAMB result slip, with the admission letter if available, plus four photocopies.
  • Two recent passport photographs.
  • Biometric confirmation with JAMB results, if possible.
  • Attestation of good character.

These requirements, the institution stressed, are non-negotiable. Candidates who fail to provide any of the documents risk being disqualified from the admission process. By insisting on these materials, the university seeks to ensure that only candidates who meet the stipulated criteria are cleared for final admission.

The exercise will be conducted in three batches, spread across three consecutive days. The schedule is as follows:

Day 1 – Wednesday, 10th September 2025

A Milestone for a New Federal University

The physical screening marks the beginning of a new chapter for FUMMSA, one of the universities recently approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria to expand access to specialized higher education. Located in Abeokuta, Ogun State, FUMMSA was established to train professionals in medicine, medical sciences, and allied fields, thereby addressing the growing demand for skilled health practitioners in the country.

For many candidates, this exercise is more than just a screening; it represents the chance to be among the pioneer students of a federal institution that holds great promise. The inclusion of diverse programmes ranging from Medicine and Dentistry to Optometry, Nursing, Pharmacy, and allied sciences reflects the university’s ambition to provide comprehensive training in health-related disciplines.

Significance of the Screening

Physical admission screenings are an integral part of the Nigerian tertiary education system. They allow institutions to authenticate candidates’ documents, verify their identities, and ensure compliance with admission guidelines as outlined by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). For a new university like FUMMSA, the exercise is doubly important as it sets the tone for standards, transparency, and credibility in its operations.

By grouping candidates by programmes and spreading the exercise across three days, FUMMSA demonstrates a deliberate attempt to conduct the process in an orderly and efficient manner. Such measures are expected to reduce overcrowding and give officials adequate time to attend to each candidate.

Expectations Moving Forward

With the release of the schedule, anticipation is high among prospective students and parents. For candidates, the exercise represents the culmination of months of preparation and the first real step into university life. For the university, it is a test of its administrative capacity and an opportunity to demonstrate the efficiency expected of a federal institution.

Observers note that successful execution of the screening exercise will boost confidence in FUMMSA’s ability to deliver on its mandate. It will also serve as an assurance to the wider public that the institution is ready to compete among Nigeria’s leading medical universities.

As the date approaches, candidates are strongly advised to organize their documents, prepare adequately, and strictly adhere to the guidelines provided. The exercise is not only about verifying credentials but also about maintaining discipline, order, and transparency — values that FUMMSA intends to uphold from the onset.

The coming weeks will therefore be crucial, both for the candidates hoping to secure admission and for the university itself, which is on the verge of welcoming its first generation of students.

Segio Campus Reports will continue to monitor developments and provide timely updates as the exercise unfolds.
