Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke has officially assumed duty as the substantive Registrar of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, following a brief handover ceremony at the Registrar’s office on Monday. She succeeds Mr. Victor Modebelu, the immediate past Acting Registrar.

Born on May 31, 1978, Dr. Okeke holds a B.Sc. in Government/Public Administration from Abia State University, an MPA from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration (Public Policy Analysis), also from NAU. She began her career at the university in 2002 as an Administrative Assistant and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Registrar in 2019, before her appointment as Registrar on August 15, 2025.
In her remarks at the ceremony, Dr. Okeke expressed gratitude to God and to the University Governing Council for the trust placed in her. She pledged to run an open and collaborative administration, with a strong emphasis on leveraging technology to drive efficiency and productivity through e-administration.
“It’s God all the way,” she said, assuring the university community that her office will remain open and committed to teamwork in fostering the growth and development of NAU.
Mr. Modebelu, in his farewell remarks, described Dr. Okeke as a workaholic with the capacity to deliver, and urged staff to support her leadership.
Dr. Okeke, a fellow of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria, and the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, has also attended numerous trainings and earned multiple recognitions, including the UN-POLAC Mother Theresa Heart of Gold Award (2022).
The event was attended by top university officials, including the immediate past Registrar, Barr. Philomina Okoye, Deputy Registrars, and the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Njelita Louis. It featured an official handover and a prayer session led by Rev. Fr. Ezonu.
With her assumption of duty, Dr. Okeke becomes the latest top administrator to take the reins at the institution, bringing with her over two decades of experience in university administration.
