AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY (ABU) NAMES PROF. OKUBANJO AS NEW POSTGRADUATE COLLEGE PROVOST

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has named Professor Oluyinka Oluseyi Okubanjo as the new Provost of the Postgraduate College, with effect from Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Prof. Okubanjo, a scholar in the Department of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology, has previously served as Deputy Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (now Postgraduate College) and as Deputy Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He takes over from Professor Muhammad Nasiru Shuaibu, following the approval of his appointment last week by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed. The tenure is for two years.

According to the university, the new Provost is expected to implement reforms that will align postgraduate education with global best practices. His assignment includes promoting international collaborations and transnational education, expanding access through technology-driven learning, and coordinating TETFund-supported scholar training in the 14 disciplines assigned to ABU.

Prof. Okubanjo’s appointment also comes at a time when ABU has been given a central national role in driving the TETFund Academic Staff Training and Development (AST&D) scheme, a task that highlights government confidence in the institution’s capacity.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that Okubanjo’s familiarity with the Postgraduate College and his reputation as a researcher and academic reformer informed the choice.
