FG TO LAUNCH TERTIARY INSTITUTION STAFF SUPPORT FUND TO BOOST WELFARE, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, has announced plans to launch the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), aimed at improving the welfare and professional growth of academic and non-academic staff in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.

The initiative was unveiled during a high-level stakeholder engagement session in Abuja, attended by union leaders, institutional heads, and education policymakers.

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), described the fund as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for revitalizing Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

“TISSF is not just about welfare. It is about empowerment,” Alausa said. “We are ensuring that our education workforce is supported to live well, grow professionally, and continue contributing meaningfully to institutional excellence.”

Under the scheme, each eligible staff member can access up to ₦10 million, capped at 33.3% of their gross annual salary. The fund is designed to support transportation, healthcare, and micro-enterprises such as poultry farming.

The programme will be managed by the Bank of Industry to guarantee transparency and efficiency in disbursement.

Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, stressed that the scheme was developed through wide consultations with staff unions and other stakeholders, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to inclusive and results-driven policymaking.
