UNIPORT STUDENT ACCUSED OF BURNING BOYFRIEND TO DEATH IN CHOBA, PORT HARCOURT

A tragic case of domestic violence has sent shockwaves across Rivers State after a young man, identified as Sunny Amadi, reportedly died from severe burns allegedly inflicted by his girlfriend, Cynthia Chukwundah, a 300-level student of the University of Port Harcourt.

The incident allegedly occurred on Ogboro Street in Choba, near the University campus. According to viral reports circulating on social media, Cynthia, said to be from Odohua in Emohua Local Government Area, allegedly set Sunny ablaze inside his residence. Sunny, a 29-year-old from Elibrada, also in Emohua LGA, reportedly succumbed to his injuries after sustaining third-degree burns across a vast portion of his body.

It is believed that Cynthia fled the scene immediately after the incident, and efforts to trace her whereabouts are currently underway.

As at press time, police authorities in Rivers State are yet to release an official statement on the matter. However, the horrific nature of the incident has stirred public outcry, with many condemning the growing trend of gender-based violence and demanding equal attention for male victims.
