NELFUND Orders All Institutions to Commence SLAS Data Upload Without Delay

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), under the directive of The Presidency, has announced a sweeping mandate to all accredited tertiary institutions across the country to immediately access, verify, and upload student data on the Student Loan Application System (SLAS).

This directive follows the complete digitization of the SLAS platform, which is designed to enhance the speed, transparency, and efficiency of student loan processing nationwide. NELFUND emphasized that the verification and upload of student data by institutions are non-negotiable steps required before any loan can be fully approved or disbursed.

Mandatory Institutional Onboarding

All institutions that have not yet been granted access to the SLAS platform are urgently required to send an access request to registration@nelf.gov.ng without delay. Once access is granted, institutions will have full use of a real-time dashboard to:

• View loan applications submitted by their students,

• Verify key student data,

• Track the approval and disbursement status of each application.

NELFUND stressed that failure to comply with this directive would result in delays in loan disbursement, directly affecting students who have successfully completed their application process.

Message to Institutions: Compliance is Not Optional

In a firm statement, NELFUND reiterated that institutional verification is a critical bottleneck in the current process. Any delay or neglect by institutions will not only hinder the success of the national student loan programme but also place an unfair burden on students who have already fulfilled their part.

“Institutions must treat this directive with utmost urgency and responsibility. The effectiveness of the SLAS system depends on their active participation,” the statement reads.

Advisory to Students: What “Verified” Means

To students who have submitted their applications, NELFUND clarified that if their application status currently displays “Verified”, it means the application has passed initial system checks. However, this is not the final stage.

Final approval and the eventual disbursement of loan funds are contingent upon:

• Confirmation of student data by their institution, and

• Successful data upload on SLAS by the institution.

Once this institutional process is completed, the loan status will automatically update to “Disbursed”, indicating that fees have been paid to the student’s institution.
