LASU BEGINS REFUND OF TUITION FEES TO NELFUND STUDENT LOAN BENEFICIARIES
Lagos State University (LASU) has begun refunding tuition fees to students who had already paid for the 2024/2025 academic session but were later approved as beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The refunds follow recent developments in the disbursement of institutional payments by NELFUND. Many students had paid their fees before LASU received the official loan disbursements from the fund, prompting the university to begin returning the money to eligible students.
The refund process kicked off on Wednesday, June 4 and is being handled by the university’s Bursary Unit. It applies to all verified beneficiaries of the NELFUND loan, regardless of their year or programme or stream.
Students who had earlier submitted a formal refund request to the Bursary, located on the 4th floor of the Senate Building at the university’s Ojo campus, are advised to check their bank accounts for payment. Refunds are being processed based on the account details students provided in their requests.
In addition, NELFUND has updated its online portal for beneficiaries, correcting the previously displayed ₦120,000 to reflect the actual tuition fees credited to LASU on behalf of each student.
This move has brought relief to many students who were concerned about paying out of pocket despite being approved for the student loan. It also marks a positive step in the ongoing collaboration between universities and the loan scheme aimed at making education more accessible and affordable.
