NEWGATE UNIVERSITY MINNA (NUM) SECURES FULL NUC ACCREDITATION FOR TEN UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Newgate University Minna has announced the successful accreditation of ten of its undergraduate programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), marking a significant milestone in its academic development. The accreditation follows a comprehensive evaluation visit conducted by the NUC in October and November 2024, building upon an earlier approval granted in July 2022.
According to the university, the NUC accreditation team conducted a rigorous review that covered curriculum standards, staffing quality, infrastructure, student support, and governance. The result was a commendable average score of 86.9% across the ten programmes, each of which has now been fully accredited through to 2029.
The accredited programmes include Software Engineering (85.9%), Information Technology (89.0%), Cyber Security (85.1%), Microbiology (88.4%), Biotechnology (85.7%), Biochemistry (87.6%), Medical Laboratory Science (90.6%), Public Health (81.8%), Nursing Science (78.5%), and Medical Laboratory Science (90.6%). The university noted that these outcomes reflect its commitment to meeting the NUC’s academic benchmarks and quality assurance standards.
In addition to the undergraduate programmes, Newgate University Minna secured NUC approval in 2023 to introduce two new degree programmes: a Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). The university said these new additions are part of its strategic expansion to meet professional demand in health sciences and legal education.
Beyond NUC accreditation, the university also received professional endorsements from several statutory bodies. These include the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Registration Board of Nigeria, and the Council for Legal Education. These recognitions were secured in 2022 and 2023, underscoring the institution’s adherence to both national policy and regulatory standards.
Commenting on the developments, the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. (Mrs.) Usman-Yamman H., expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the accreditations. She stated that the university leadership considers these achievements as confirmation of its vision to be a leader in human development, research, and academic excellence. She reiterated the university’s commitment to continuous quality assurance and regulatory compliance, adding that Newgate University will continue to prepare graduates for professional success both within Nigeria and internationally
