JAMB INTRODUCES INCLUSIVITY POLICY TO BENEFIT PRISON INMATES

In a groundbreaking move, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched an inclusivity policy aimed at creating career opportunities for prison inmates. This initiative is part of the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration exercise.

Recently, the Gombe State Coordinator, Mr. Johnson Adebiyi, paid a visit to the Nigerian Correctional Service in Gombe, where he sensitized qualified prison inmates about the benefits of registering for the 2025 UTME/DE. Adebiyi explained that the Board has put in place facilities to ensure seamless registration and examination for candidates with special needs.

The inclusivity policy includes a waiver for prison inmates who meet the admission criteria set by the Board and tertiary institutions. This affirmative action aims to accommodate candidates with special needs, providing them with equal opportunities for education and career advancement.

According to Adebiyi, the Board and tertiary institutions will monitor the progress of special needs candidates, including prison inmates, to ensure the effectiveness of the policy. The Board has also implemented measures to prevent fraudulent candidates from taking advantage of the system.

The Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Gombe, Mr. Victor Odafen, expressed gratitude to Adebiyi for the advocacy visit and promised to take necessary measures to ensure that qualified inmates take advantage of the opportunity.
