
LASU VC CHARGES 12590 MATRICULANTS TO SHUN DEVIANT BEHAVIORS AND STRIVE FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Lagos State University (LASU) officially welcomed its newly admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic session at the Matriculation Ceremony held today, February 18, 2025. The event, which took place at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, marked the formal admission of 12,590 students out of over 50,000 applicants.
In her address, Vice Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello congratulated the new students and their families, acknowledging the significant role of parents and guardians in supporting their wards’ academic pursuits. She emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a conducive, competitive, and secure learning environment, with a strong focus on character development and academic excellence.
Professor Olatunji-Bello highlighted LASU’s achievements, including its ranking as the 9th best university in Nigeria and the best university in West Africa, according to Greenmetrics. She also emphasized the university’s zero-tolerance policy for cultism, examination malpractices, and sexual and gender-based violence.

The Vice Chancellor urged the new students to abide by the university’s rules and regulations, attend lectures regularly, carry out assignments, and shun deviant behaviors. She also encouraged them to respect their colleagues and university staff to ensure a successful and productive stay on campus.
As Professor Olatunji-Bello noted, “We take pride in training students for life. Our objective is to produce graduates who will be catalysts for transformation.”
The ceremony marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the new students, who are expected to contribute meaningfully to developmental discourses around the globe upon graduation.
