JAMB Registers 201867 Candidates for UTME in First Week

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced that 201,867 candidates successfully registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) within the first week of registration.

The UTME registration, which began on Monday, February 3, and will run until Saturday, March 8, is a computer-based entrance examination for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

In its weekly bulletin, JAMB disclosed that it has paid N141 million to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for the registration conducted within the period. This payment is part of the board’s commitment to weekly payments of UTME registration charges collected as part of the total fee for UTME to CBT centres.

JAMB typically registers an average of 1.5 million candidates annually, with last year’s figure exceeding 1.9 million. However, only 24% of the candidates scored 200 or above out of the 400 obtainable scores.

The board has also taken steps to address challenges in the registration process. Two CBT centres, the Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum, Yobe State, and a CBT Centre in Otukpo, Benue State, were suspended for breaching registration procedures. Additionally, JAMB warned all CBT centres against late-night registration, with 10 centres found to be registering candidates at night. Any centre found violating the regulations will face strict sanctions.
