Prof. Uduk of UNIUYO convicted for falsifying 2019 election results


An Akwa Ibom state high court sitting in Uyo, has sentenced a University don, Prof Ignatius Uduk to 6years in a correctional centre for electoral fraud.

 

After five years of legal fireworks and drama , the case between the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and a University of Uyo lecturer, Professor Ignatius Uduk , who was the returning officer in the 2019 Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District Election, was decided on Wednesday February 5, with the trial judge, Bassey Nkanang sentencing Prof Uduk to 3 years each on count 2 and 3 which were publication of false result and perjury while he was left off the hook on count one which was announcing fake result.

 

The sentences are to run concurrently.

 

Professor Uduk was charged to court in 2020 by INEC on a 3 count charge of announcing false result, publication of false result and perjury in the 2019 Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District Election.

 

Both counsels expressed satisfaction with the trial.
