PROF. OLUFEMI IDOWU EMERGES 10TH PROVOST OF LASUCOM

The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) has elected a new Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu. He emerged victorious in a keenly contested election held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Medical Sciences Auditorium.

Professor Idowu, the current Deputy Provost, defeated Professor Mobolaji Oludara, the former Acting Provost, in an election that showcased the college’s vibrant democratic traditions. The process was overseen by the Chief Electoral Officer and Registrar of the University, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU, represented by the College Secretary, Mr O.A. Oyebanjo.

The election witnessed an impressive voter turnout, with members of the college’s Academic Staff Assembly participating actively. Observers praised the process for its transparency and adherence to electoral standards.

As the newly elected Provost, Professor Idowu is set to assume office in January 2025. He will inherit ongoing projects, including the transmutation plans of LASUCOM into the University of Medical and Health Sciences by the Lagos State Government.

In his post-election remarks, Professor Idowu expressed gratitude to the college community and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and inclusive leadership. “This victory is a collective one. Together, we will chart a bold and progressive course for our college and its transmutation, ensuring its continued prominence on the global stage,” he said.

The Lagos State University (LASU) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has congratulated the new Provost on his election and wished him a successful tenure ahead.
