GOVERNOR RADDA OFFERS EMPLOYMENT TO UMYUK FIRST CLASS GRADUATES
The Katsina state government has offered automatic employment to all first class graduates of the combined 9th-13th convocation ceremony.
Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, the executive Governor of Katsina state and visitor of UMYU made the offer in his address at the ceremony, investiture of the chancellor and award of honourary doctorate degrees in Katsina on Saturday.
Radda said the graduates would be integrated into the state civil service to enable them contribute their quota to the development of the state.
He also expressed the resolve of his administration to ensure the take off of the Teaching hospital for the faculty of medical sciences to enable it offer programmes leading to the awards of degrees in medicine and Other spheres in health sectors in the state.
“This important faculty will fill the human resources deficits in the state health sector. Already, building structures to house these programmes are in place, with the needed equipment and requisite manpower”.
Similarly, he added that, the state had established the faculty of agriculture at the old Agricultural training centre at Layin Minista in Malumfashi LGA to diversify sources of revenue with emphasis on agriculture that was the mainstay of the country prior to the discovery of oil.
In view of this diversification programme, the Governor called on the management of UMYU to continue to harness alternative means of revenue generation, adding that, several institutions abroad and at home have tasted the waters and proved that it is realizable.

He congratulated the doctorate degrees awardees for the honour given them and the 10,215 graduands for being deemed worthy in character and learning to be awarded various degrees.
He drew the attention of the graduates to the financial realities on ground across the world, saying “it is no longer business as usual, you must adjust your expectations and aspirations to these changing realities, ensure you learn, unlearn and relearn if you want to be relevant in the 21st century”.
Senator Ibrahim Muhammad Idah, the Chancellor of UMYU, in his remarks, expressed his Commitment to the academic excellence to foster an environment where intellectual curiosity would know no bounds and new knowledge will continue to be embraced.
He said the institution would be supported with world class facilities to attract brightest minds and create opportunities for transformative learning experiences that extend beyond the four walls of the classrooms.
Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, on his part, lamented that, the institution had been facing challenges in realizing it’s vision of becoming one of the best university in the country.
“The most prominent of these challenges is lack of competent, transparent, accountable and sensitive leadership. In the case of UMYU, accumulated leadership deficit bred severe and consequential governance crisis in poor relations between management and in-house unions”, he opined.
Professor Salihu Muhammad, the vice chancellor of the institution, earlier, charged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the university wherever they may find themselves.
