
LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY (LASU) ISSUES SECURITY TIPS FOR MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY DURING THE YELUTIDE SEASON
It is no longer news that during the yelutide season, there is a rise in crime rate and other form of insecurity risk. As a result, the Security Unit hereby advises members of the university community to be security conscious and shun any act of crime and criminalities.
The following tips would help in self security consciousness:
*BE CONSCIOUS OF YOUR ENVIRONMENT:* Remember to pay attention and stay alert whenever you are walking alone.
*DO NOT KEEP LATE NIGHT:* Avoid keeping late night at all times to prevent being a soft target of attack and kidnapping.
*DON’T USE ATM MACHINE IN THE DARK:* To keep yourself safe, always use the ATM during the day time and not in isolated area.
*DON’T TRAVEL BY ROAD AT NIGHT:* During the night, if you experience any form of insecurity such as robbery, kidnapping or accident, help might not be available when necessary.
*DON’T SHARE SENSITIVE INFORMATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA:* Sharing sensitive information about yourself or your family can expose you to moral danger.
*DON’T MOVE AROUND WITH HEAVY CASH:* This is risky and can attract criminals. Therefore, don’t walk around with a large sum of money.
*UNPLUG ALL UNUSED APPLIANCES IN THE OFFICE AND HOMES:* Always remove all unused appliances from the wall sockets to avoid electric surges.
*BE CAREFUL WHEN HELPING STRANGERS WITH A LIFT:* Be observant when you give a person a lift in your car to avoid being implicated or harmed.
*KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED AT ALL TIMES:* Ensure you know who is at your door before you open it.
*STAY ALERT AND REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS MOVEMENT AROUND YOU:* Report any strange happenings or movement of suspected persons around you to the appropriate security agents.
*YOU SHOULD NOT EXPOSE YOUR VALUABLES TO THE MARAUDERS KEEP COOKING GAS CYLINDER AWAY FROM CHILDREN:* and do not keep it close to heat emitting objects such as open fire, cooking stove etc.
*ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD YOU USE YOUR GENERATOR CLOSE TO YOUR ROOM:* because of the fumes it produces which can be dangerous when inhaled and as well leads to death, it is advisable to move it away from the room.
*WALL GECKO SHOULD BE PREVENTED IN THE HOUSE AT ALL TIMES:* most especially, food tramped by a wall gecko should not be eaten to avoid untimely death because it is poisonous.
