A RECAP OF THE “FIRST OF ITS KIND” MEDIA CHAT WITH STUDENTS JOURNALISTS/INFLUENCERS HOSTED BY THE VICE CHANCELLOR, LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY (LASU)


The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU) Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM hosted the Students Journalists/Influencers in an interactive session in a bid to maintain close relationship with the student populace.

The Members of Management were around to grace the event. Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Prof. Funsho Omobintan, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Adenike Boyo, University Registrar Mr. Emmanuel Fanu, University Bursar Mr. Said Olayinka, University Librarian Dr. Layi Adebayo, Dean Students Affairs Division, Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko, Directorate of ICT Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin and other members of staffs and management.

The Students Journalists/Influencers present at the Media Chat include: Public Relation Officers from Various Faculties, Representative from Segio Online Services, Representative from ACJ LASU, Representative from LASU RADIO, Representative from LASU Life, Representative from LASUGONG, Representative from LASU Conscience, Representative from Campus Info among others.

The Vice Chancellor’s Address:

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM in her address stated the recent developments and achievements.

Among these wonderful achievements and developments are:

Uninterrupted academic calendar even when there was a national strike, Facilitated the construction and handover of the student arcade (the largest in the country), facilitated in release of buses for ease of movement of students, Facilitated the ongoing construction of 8000 bed hostels which is at an advanced stage while some are ready to be occupied, and will be allocated from next session, Renovation of several lecture halls and construction of new halls, accreditation and commencement of new programmes in order to provide more opportunities for aspirants of the great citadel of learning (21 new programmes accreditation following NUC Accreditation), Sponsoring of students to local and international competitions and encouraged outstanding students with cash gifts, graduated the highest number of first class students in the last sessions, admission of 20 international students in various courses, zero tolerance for gender based violence.

More Achievements: Installation of CCTV in all institution campuses, introduction of smart classrooms, commencements of online clearance and uploading of results for the postgraduate school, digitalization of all university records from 1985 to 2015, members of the public can visit the university virtually through the university virtual tour which is available on the institution website.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE:

  1. DEADLINE FOR UPLOADING OF RESULTS BY LECTURERS ON LIDC PORTAL IS FRIDAY OCTOBER 6th, 2023. Then, students of the University can access their results from Saturday 7th October, 2023.
  2. DEADLINE FOR TUITION FEES PAYMENTS

Madam VC has graciously extended the deadline of tuition fees payments initially slated to close on September 30th 2023 to October 15th 2023

  1. DEADLINE FOR COURSE REGISTRATION FOR SECOND SEMESTER 2022/2023 ACADEMIC SESSION

Madam VC has graciously extended the deadline of course registrations initially slated to close on September 30th 2023 to October 15th 2023

  1. SECOND SEMESTER EXAMINATION FOR THE 2022/2023 ACADEMIC SESSION

The SECOND SEMESTER EXAMINATION FOR THE 2022/2023 ACADEMIC SESSION will commence from 15th of November, 2023.

  1. LASU WORK/STUDY SCHEME

The LASU Work/Study scheme is currently ongoing in the university. This will enable students work and at the same time study. “They will add these experiences to their CVs”  Madam VC said.

  1. REVEALING OF STUDENT LIFE APP

The Student Life App will be available in coming weeks on Google Play Store and Apple Store. This is to enable easy access of students portal and sharing of information, 

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Lagos State University (LASU) will cohost the forthcoming ALL AFRICA UNIVERSITY GAMES in 2024. When asked about the expectations and preparations, Madam VC revealed that preparations are ongoing already. She added that the LASU Water and Bottling Company is ready only pending NAFDAC approval, with its unique bottle and seal. This is a wonderful achievement. She also disclosed that new sporting facilities will be constructed  and all the necessary things needed will definitely be put in place before then.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP (STREAM TWO):

The Directorate of Entrepreneurship appreciated the Madam VC for her support in enhancing proper facilitation of the programme. “We’re like Oliver Twist, we always want more…” he said… He added that the programme needed more equipment for efficient learning to take place. Also, he disclosed the decision reached with the ICT on only allowing students at EPE Campus to choose ENT Courses that are currently available in  their campus.

SECURITY

The Chief Security Officer hailed the Vice Chancellor for her dedication and praises her resilience in making sure the students are safe within and outside the campus. Recall that the management already observed a parley with 16 Heads of Police, DSS Divisions on Security of Staffs and Students.

FREE TRANSPORTATION:

The Vice Chancellor has generously approved the availability of buses to convey students to and fro, this will help ease the burden of expenses as transport fares has skyrocketed.

INTRODUCTION AND COMMENCEMENT OF HYBRID TEACHING.

The Vice Chancellor announced that plans have been made to carryout Hybrid teaching as part of the directions of the NUC. The Vice Chancellor mentioned that some departments already commenced this new teaching process and other departments will join soon. Madam VC also noted that LASU is among the first to observe this new system, but definitely, other universities are going towards that direction.
