AFIT EXPELS SEVEN STUDENTS FOR DRUG RELATED MISCONDUCT

The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, has expelled seven students of the School of Basic and Remedial Studies for gross misconduct involving the use of illicit drugs.

According to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations, Wing Commander Bassey Ibiang Okon (PhD), the affected students tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the principal psychoactive component of marijuana, during a random drug screening exercise. Marijuana is classified as a banned substance under the Institute’s regulations.

The expelled students—Mr Yusuf O. Abdullahi (308/SBRS/24), Mr Ezima King Success (046/SBRS/24), Mr Kamba Chakiram (142/SBRS/24), Mr Rabiu Muritala (075/SBRS/24), Mr Musa Isah Tifima (068/SBRS/24), Mr Nwukoso Joseph Ndubisi (149/SBRS/24), and Mr Matthew Moses Ojonimi (065/SBRS/24)—were all undergoing preliminary studies in preparation for entry into various academic programmes.

Commenting on the development, the Director of the School of Basic and Remedial Studies, Air Commodore H.J. Ali, noted that the drug tests followed a surprise search prompted by credible reports of drug use among students. He affirmed that the measure was necessary to maintain discipline and uphold AFIT’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics.

AFIT has consistently emphasized its stance against the use of hard drugs, with students being duly informed during orientation and through the Students’ Code of Conduct Handbook. The expulsion of the students is expected to serve as a strong deterrent to others.

“Their status as students has been withdrawn with immediate effect,” the statement concluded.
