ASUU-KASU Suspends Indefinite Strike, Lectures to Resume Immediately
In a significant development for students and staff of Kaduna State University (KASU), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University branch, has officially suspended its indefinite strike action. The decision was confirmed in a letter addressed to the university’s Vice Chancellor and signed by Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi, Acting Chairman of ASUU-KASU, and Dr. Peter M. Waziri, Secretary of the union.

According to the letter, the suspension follows the approval of the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU, which granted ASUU-KASU Congress the mandate to halt the strike. The industrial action, which commenced on April 24, 2025, was called off with immediate effect.
The union stated that the suspension is a gesture of goodwill towards the Kaduna State Government, aimed at giving the authorities the benefit of the doubt. ASUU-KASU further announced plans to reconvene by June 30, 2025, to assess the government’s adherence to the Memorandum of Action (MOA) signed between the union and the state’s Negotiation Committee.
“The Congress of ASUU-KASU resolved to give the government the benefit of the doubt and to reconvene by the 30th of June 2025, to review the implementation of the Memorandum of Action (MOA),” the letter read in part.
The decision comes as a relief to students and parents who have been anxiously awaiting a resolution to the impasse. Academic activities are expected to resume immediately across the university.
