UNICAL Expels Public Health Student Over Phone Theft Allegation

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has expelled a student, Victory Chuwuemeka, from the Department of Public Health over allegations of phone theft, following a disciplinary investigation by the Senate Students Disciplinary Committee (SSDC).

According to an official expulsion letter dated 14th May 2025, signed by the university’s Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Chukwu I. Icha, the Vice Chancellor received and reviewed the findings of the SSDC, which investigated the alleged misconduct during the 2023/2024 academic session.

The university’s Senate subsequently approved the recommendation of the SSDC that Chuwuemeka be expelled from the university with immediate effect, citing theft as the reason for the disciplinary action.

“You are hereby expelled from the University of Calabar with effect from the 2023/2024 academic session,” the letter stated.

University authorities directed the Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, the Head of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, and the Chief Security Officer to ensure full compliance with the directive.

The expulsion underscores UNICAL’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and its commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within its academic environment.

Efforts to reach the affected student for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
